A hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require R&B singer Chris Brown to stand trial for an alleged attack on pop singer Rihanna in Hancock Park is to be held June 22, a judge decided Thursday.

The 20-year-old entertainer — who was not required to be in court for Thursday’s brief hearing — is accused of assaulting and threatening his then girlfriend after a pre-Grammy Awards party in February.

Brown must be at the preliminary hearing, which is expected to be done either the afternoon of June 22 or within two days of then.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg denied two motions filed by the defense seeking information about internal investigations into the leaking of a photo of a battered Rihanna, and personnel files of 25 Los Angeles Police Department employees.

Schnegg told defense attorney Mark Geragos she did not think the motions were timely, but that he could seek the information again after the preliminary hearing.

Brown was charged March 5 with assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and criminal threats, which are both felonies.

He is accused of attacking his then-girlfriend during an argument that began around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 8 in a rented Lamborghini on North June Street near First Street, as the two were en route to a home in the Hancock Park area following Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Awards party.

Brown is free on $50,000 bail posted after he surrendered to police hours later. Both singers skipped the awards show that night.
