“The Hangover’’ rose late at the box office but ultimately passed “Up’’ to take the top spot, according to final figures out Monday.

Earlier estimates had Pixar’s animated feature holding onto first place for the second week, but Sunday ticket sales apparently gave a lift to “The Hangover,’’ which wound up with a $44.9 million take in its debut weekend.

“Up’’ fell to second place, earning $44.1 million and boosting its domestic earnings in two weeks to $137.2 million, according to Hollywood.com Box-Office.

“Land of the Lost’’ ($18.8 million) opened in third place, followed by “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian’’ ($14.6 million) and “Star Trek’’ ($8.3 million).

Rounding out the top 10 were “Terminator Salvation’’ ($8.2 million), “Drag Me to Hell’’ ($7 million), “Angels & Demons’’ ($6.5 million), “My Life in Ruins’’ ($3.2 million) and “Dance Flick’’ ($1.9 million).

The dozen top-grossing movies generated a combined $160.7 million over the weekend, down 5.90 percent from the $170.8 million earned by the 12 top earners during the same period a year ago.
