‘Final’ figures for box office

“The Final Destination” scared up $28.3 million in estimated ticket sales, and debuted at the top of the North American box office this weekend, according to projections released Monday.

The Warner Bros. release, filmed in 3-D, is the fourth of an installment that focuses on people seemingly cheating death, who eventually die in horrific accidents.

Quentin Tarantino’s movie, “Inglourious Basterds,” about revenge-seeking Jewish soldiers wrecking havoc in Hitler’s Germany, fell to No. 2, earning $20 million in ticket sales this weekend for a total of $74 million during its two-week run, according to estimates from Hollywood.com.

Director Rob Zombie’s sequel, “Halloween II,” another Weinstein Co. production, opened in the No. 3 slot with $17.4 million in ticket sales.

Rounding out the top 10 are: “District 9,” Sony/Tristar, $10.7 million this weekend, $90.8 million over three weeks; “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” Paramount, $8 million this weekend, $132.4 million over four weeks; “Julie and Julia,” Sony/Columbia, $7.4 million this weekend, $71 million over four weeks; “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” Warner Bros., $6.7 million this weekend; $48.2 million over three weeks; “Shorts” Warner Bros., $4.9 million this weekend, $13.6 million over two weeks; “Taking Woodstock,” Focus, debuting with $3.8 million; and “G-Force,” Disney, $2.8 million this weekend, $111.8 million over six weeks.
