“American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life, 1765-1915,” highlights the variety and strength of American artistic achievement during an epochal century and a half, covering the colonial era through the prelude to World War I. Throughout this transformative period, artists recorded American life as it changed around them. Featured artists include John Singleton Copley, Winslow Homer, Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, George Bellows, and many others.
