The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that it found no merit to a complaint that Councilman Bernard Parks lives outside his district, an aide to Parks said.

“Hopefully this last bogus allegation is the final disgusting remnant of that smear campaign,” said the councilman’s son and chief of staff Bernard Parks, Jr. “There are other very real and very serious investigations that the public should be concerned about.”

There was no immediate comment from the deputy district attorney assigned to the complaint.

Parks’ office released a statement saying that the District Attorney’s Office’s Public Integrity Unit “never thought there was enough substance behind the complaint made against Parks to even interview the council member.”

Parks has lived in the 8th District, in South Los Angeles, since he first declared his candidacy for the seat in 2002, the statement said.

Earlier this month, another councilman, Richard Alarcon, pleaded not guilty to charges that he does not live in the 7th District which he represents, but in the 2nd District, represented by Paul Krekorian.

If convicted, Alarcon could fail jail time and be barred from ever holding public office again.
