SANTA FE SPRINGS — Comstock Homes, a Manhattan Beach-based home builder, will break ground at 1 p.m. Friday for construction on the largest solar community in the United States, the city’s 54-acre project on the south side of Telegraph Road between Norwalk Boulevard and Santa Fe Springs Road.
The groundbreaking will take place at 12350 Telegraph Road. Completion of the first phase is expected next January.
Each of the 511 new homes planned for the Villages at Heritage Springs will be constructed with high-efficiency solar roof tiles. It is expected the solar power systems will reduce homeowners’ power bills by as much as 60 percent, a Comstock representative said.
“Villages at Heritage Springs is a look at the future of home building,” said Tabassom Ayazi, vice president for Comstock Homes Sales and Marketing.
“Making homes more energy-efficient and giving them solar power should not be an after thought. Conserving energy and saving money should be a consideration before the house is built.”
Comstock Homes has partnered with San Jose-based SunPower to install its solar roof tiles on each of the new homes built in the community.
In addition to solar power, homes will have other energy-saving features including dual-pane low-energy windows, high-efficiency heating and air conditioning, tankless water heaters, energy-efficient lighting and special cool roof tiles, the representative said.
The gated community will include both single-family homes and townhomes built around a private recreation area with pool, spa, barbecue, picnic area, playground and basketball court.
In addition to their energy-saving features, the homes will have gourmet kitchens with granite counters, large master suites with walk-in closets and many other special attributes.
