WHITTIER — The Learning, Enrichment and Academic Resources Network has presented the El Monte Union High School District with a check for $61,711.

“We are very grateful to LEARN for all of the services they provide for our students,” El Monte Superintendent Nick Salerno said. “They have been of great support and we are extremely appreciative of their generosity. “These funds will help offset the huge cuts we have been forced to deal with because of the state budget crisis.”

LEARN has provided more than $1 million to the district for homework help, academic and extra-curricular enrichment and recreation.

One program offers support for after-school academic enrichment activities. The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

“LEARN is deeply committed to the students and families that we work with in the El Monte Union High School District and are happy to be able to assist the district during these tight fiscal times,” said Robert Arellanes, LEARN CEO.

“We remain committed to encouraging a culture of learning through the programming we provide and are encouraged to be working with such a dedicated school board, superintendent and staff at each site.”

“Partnering with LEARN has attracted millions of dollars in resources that have translated into direct services for our students in the area of college access, academic enrichment and career awareness, to name a few,” Salerno said.
