PICO RIVERA — The Learning, Enrichment and Academic Resources Network, known as LEARN, in partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation and El Rancho High School, is holding the Generation 1st Degree logo contest, an initiative to increase the college enrollment of eligible El Rancho High School Latino graduates.

“The vision and goal of the campaign is to ensure that every household in Pico Rivera will have at least one college graduate,” said Robert Arellanes, LEARN CEO. “Reaching this goal will have an enduring impact on the college outlook of families from El Rancho High School.”

As part of this campaign, El Rancho High School students are invited to participate in a “best logo” contest to promote the new campaign and highlight the importance of higher education for all students.

The designer of the winning entry, which will be selected through online voting, is eligible to win a $1,000 Visa gift card and will have his or her logo seen by El Rancho High School students and the Pico Rivera community.

Official rules can be found on the LEARN website at learnla.org. The deadline has been extended to Feb. 15.

For additional information contact José Gutierrez, regional program director of the Hispanic Scholarship, at (213) 400-8066 or jgutierrez@hsf.net.

LEARN provides quality after-school services that focus on homework assistance, academic and extra-curricular enrichment and recreation for grades K through 12 within the communities of Whittier, Pico Rivera, El Monte, and Bassett. Academic, enrichment, and college preparatory activities are the main focus of the GEAR UP program, which is intended to increase the number of underprivileged students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.
