Jonas Silverio pleads not guilty

LYNWOOD — Former Firebaugh High School Principal Jonas Silverio pleaded not guilty to 17 counts of committing lewd acts on a child at his Aug. 11 arraignment at Compton Superior Court.

Silverio, who was put on administrative leave with pay from the district in May, resigned on June 10 as principal of Firebaugh, effective June 30.

He was taken into custody July 8 at Los Angeles International Airport as he was returning from a trip to the Philippines.

Silverio is accused of committing acts against three minor girls. Two of them are said to be former Firebaugh High School students. The third student is from a Whittier school.

It has also been confirmed that Silverio’s California teaching credential has been temporarily suspended, pending the outcome of the case.

Silverio’s next court date is Sept. 4 in Department D at Compton Superior Court, when a preliminary hearing date will be set.

According to Sandi Gibbons of the district attorney’s office, Silverio’s bail is still set at $1 million and he remains in custody.

“The preliminary hearing is the next step in the proceedings,” Gibbons said. “In a felony case, after a defendant is arraigned on charges and a plea is entered, then a preliminary hearing is set. At that point, in front of a judge, the prosecutor will present evidence in the case, and the defense has a chance to cross examine any witnesses … and to object to any evidence that is introduced.”

At that end of that hearing, the judge who hears all of the evidence, makes a determination on whether the evidence is sufficient for the case to move to trial.

Even if you want sex with an adult, who is also an official of your school [not to mention a married father!] and he gives it to you, he has raped you, legally and morally. It is the adult's responsibility to say no, to explain why sexual (or emotional) intimacy between the two of you is wrong. Even if you beg him, the onus is on him to keep anything from happening. As an adult and as a school authority figure, he was responsible for honoring even the students who were too needy to know better.

If you really miss him so much (Someone Who Knows) maybe you should go to jail with him and you guys can spend the rest of your lives behind bars. Because anyone who defends Silverio is a villain and menace to society, and you should be lock up for have your brain check for a mental disorder

Silverio used to tell all the tenured teachers to quit and leave Firebaugh HS, he did this so he could hire student teachers from Dominguez College, where Dr. Lal's wife ran the education program. Once the student teachers were hired, he could pay them the lowest wage, (substitue pay), and threaten them to do his slave labor all year. Will his trial be televised?

We can all thank Silverio for this one, had he not gotten caught, none of this would have happened. Dr. Lal would still be with us and the board would still be making lousy decisions with our money. I think we all owe Silverio a big round of applause. Thank you, pervert for getting the ball rolling, on this one. I hate to say it, but we couldn’t have done it without you. If Silverio’s were smart he would plead guilty or confess to a crime in exchange for a lighter sentence. But I think he is a megalomaniac who believes he is innocent. I think he will risk it all and find that out later that he is going to face more serious charges and time in prison. “Hey Silverio, you’re better off copping a plea, than facing a jury”.
