Silverio in court Friday with new lawyer

LYNWOOD — Former Firebaugh High School Principal Jonas Silverio is due back in court Friday under the representation of Los Angeles-based attorney Kenneth J. Kahn.

Previously defended by Harold Greenberg, Silverio in early December requested a public defender.

Kahn will be Silverio’s fourth attorney. The former adminisrtator is facing 18 counts of committing lewd acts on children, two of whom are former Firebaugh High School students.

Several calls into Kahn’s L.A. office were not returned. A secretary in his office said she could not “confirm” whether or not Kahn was representing Silverio.

Four victims testified in an Oct. 20 preliminary hearing. Along with an extensive investigation — which is still ongoing — the District Attorney’s Office at the hearing identified four victims in the case but were allowed by the judge to bring in a fifth witness to testify. The incident involving the fifth witness occurred in 1995 and thus the statute of limitations law prevented the prosecution from including her in their charges against Silverio. She was 16 years old at the time.

Greenberg objected to the fifth witness citing the overlap of the statute of limitations, but the judge allowed it and nearly six hours later, the judge ordered Silverio to stand trial.

The hearing for Silverio, who is still being held at Twin Towers on $1.2 million bail, is in Dept. D at 8:30 a.m. before Compton Superior Court Judge John Cheroske.

I was referring to Silverio in the past tense because he was at the time evil to me & other teachers, and you are also correct in your observation that he currently is evil. Agree with your observation re location of school, the locals sure didn't like their park being taken away from them. My subject did require English as appropriate, btw.

to Ex Firebaugh teacher: This is an example how Lynwood USD hires teachers, "Silverio was EVIL in character" (Ex Firebaugh Teacher). He is a evil character. He's not dead so it can't be was, cause he still is alive and still a evil character. Hope you weren't a English teacher. Firebaugh is a waste of tax money. I can't believe we still have this school open; there's no differences. It not even a credit IB school. The California Education board does not recognize it as a IB school. It's all BS. They also build the school where a convicted sex offender lives, and they can't remove him from his home because he already lived there before the school was build. City of Lynwood is all BS. I'm going to run for City Council and School Board. We need more parents to get involved in the school district.

Yes it is an example of how a beautiful new school can be mired in scandal by a self serving school board that rubber stamps all of Dr Lal choices. Silverio could do no wrong. He was a wonderful leader, etc. Then we found out the truth and he has 18 counts against him. How come no counts against the school board and Dr. Lal? What did Lynwood need another high school for?? With a declining enrollment in the area of 20% it was a waste of taxpayers money. A monument to School Board excesses!

To the Jonas defense fund. He is a good man, of high moral fiber. He only made a few small mistakes. Lets keep the fund raising quiet. The school board did the same! They kept it quiet for 6 months. Can't we all just get along?

Jonas will face these changes: from FHS principalship to CDCR inmateship. From business suits to state prisons jumpsuits. From issuing honor roll prizes to compete for honor yard. From issuing false letters to teachers to be issued prison disciplinary reports. From sexual predator to easy prey in prison. To enjoy good time at FHS to do the hardest time and be some big guy toy at CDCR.

Dr Conrad Murray out on $75,000 bail facing a 4 year sentence. Jonas bail $1.2 million! Does that mean he faces a 50 year sentence?

Having been educated in the cesspool of LUSD for 12 years, many of them are not ready for college anyway. If the state takeover happens, the seniors can take themselves to El Camino or Southwest or Cerritos community college and bone up on skills they really need and which most do not have. College is still a possibility. Those who are serious will need to be creative in meeting their goals. Community college for 2 years with decent grades and then transfer to a four-year.

Let's keep in mind that if the state takeover occurs, seniors would lose their credibility to enter college. They deserve to extend their education. Ask Compton!

The Lynwood school board does not care about you non re-elected teachers that Silverio shorted even if was to cover up his own bad deeds. He non re-elected anyone who was close to finding out about his actions, yet the board has not rescinded even one non re-elect by him. All this was covered up by Lal and the Board who looked the other way. And Lynwood re-elected the School Board. The Lal Cronies are still there too. Every one of them!

To sk, I was issued that non-re-elect in the Spring of 2006, the statute of limitations has passed, and I was able to find another, better job after only 4 months, so I do not have a case worth pursuing. Others who were affected in the last 2 years would have a better chance. It would a great goodwill gesture if the LUSD board would PUBLICLY DECLARE that anyone issued a non-re-elect by Silverio by eligible for re-hire, and in good standing. If they don't, I would be willing to testify

The State takeover simply put, robs You of making good sound decisions about students' education, just ask Compton! Why not rid the district of crooks and hooks sitting in the upper beige room who don't have a simple clue about running a district (dressed up dummies). I am asking anyone that knows anything to speak out. Why not start with those who have make unexpecting and sudden retirement at district level should be a starting clue. Let's look at the "good morning" to you.

He may be only a small part of LUSD's problems, but trust me when I tell you, he did LOTS of damage all on his own. He made unnecessary enemies; hurt many good, dedicated teachers; created an atmosphere of divisiveness in his own school in which certain circles of students and teachers were prized more highly above the others; and he quite possibly seduced and raped (statutorily speaking) more than one student in his care. A troubled man who should never have been in leadership.

All his mistresses must be working overtime for him to keep requesting new lawyers; his wife, Gabby, that huge extended family of his, including cousins working at the district. Why support this guy you ask? That's a good question. Why don't you just cut the bad seed from the family?! Is it really that hard after 15 years of robbing innocence, this family still supports him. What a crazy clan!! They are all mental and maybe all of them should be investigated for wrongdoing.
