EAST LOS ANGELES — Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman opened a campaign office here Wednesday, discussing her plans to create more jobs.

But her appearance was greeted by a group of Latino and labor activists who criticized her in a boisterous demonstration outside the tiny storefront office.

Whitman, the former eBay chief executive officer, has pledged to help create two million private sector jobs by 2015 by implementing job-creating tax cuts for businesses of every size; eliminating the factory tax to strengthen manufacturing and creating and retaining high-paying jobs; eliminating the state capital gains tax; increasing research and development tax credits; accelerating depreciation of new business equipment and establishing tax incentives and credits to train and hire displaced workers.

Whitman’s Democratic opponent, Attorney General Jerry Brown, “will have an expanded jobs proposal in the next few days that builds on the existing green jobs plan,” aide Sterling Clifford told City News Service.

Brown announced an eight-point clean energy jobs plan June 15 that calls for building 12,000 megawatts of localized energy generation and 8,000 megawatts of large scale renewables and necessary transmission lines and developing more combined heat and power projects.

Also on Wednesday, Whitman released two more Spanish-language television commercials.

The ads, which focus on Whitman’s plan to create jobs and fix California’s schools, will air statewide on Univision, Telemundo and Telefutura channels.

The first ad, “Jobs Plan,” portrays Whitman as a job creator and her plan to put Californians back to work.

The second ad, “Education Plan,” underscores her conviction that California must do a better job of educating children.

The campaign office is located at 212 S. Atlantic Blvd.

Sorry Meg. You are just too phony. Your campaign has close ties to Pete Wilson. This is the same knucklehead who tried to put a prison in East LA. Your voting record in California is spotty at best. And I'd like to see your minority hiring practices at E-Bay. However, I am not talking about cooks, gardeners, and janitors.
