Carnival Primavera starts Friday in Huntington Park (April 2, 2009)

HUNTINGTON PARK — Latino motion picture actor and singer Miguel Angel Rodriguez will serve as king of the 16th annual Carnaval Primavera (Spring Carnival) street fair conducted by the Greater Huntington Park Area Chamber of Commerce.

It will take place Friday through Sunday on Pacific Boulevard between Florence and Slauson avenues, said Dante D’Eramo, executive director of the chamber.
Highlights include carnival rides and attractions, coronation of the king, the children’s mask-making contest, arts and crafts and a free family health fair, D’Eramo said.

Rodriguez will be part of the free entertainment, along with Pasteles Verdes, La Migra, Eco Norteñdo and El Tiempo.

Also appearing on the stage of stars will be Don Pedro Rivera, Rosy Gonzalez and Gustavo Rivera, Juan Elizalde, Miriam y Su Grupo Neblina and Cadetes de Linares.

As a special offer, Bally Total Fitness will give out two one-year memberships free of charge. To take part in the drawing register at the Chamber of Commerce booth at Pacific Boulevard and Randolph Street.

All those who register will receive free Mardi Gras beads.

Hours are from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Some 110 food and game booth vendors are expected to buy city permits at $80 each, providing the city with about $7,000 to make up some of the lost revenue from parking meters, said Henry Gray, the city’s director of economic development.

In addition, food vendors will need permits from the county Department of Health, Gray said.
