The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles County rose 1.1 cents Tuesday to $1.961, the 15th consecutive daily increase and 25th in the past 27 days.

The average price is 12.1 cents more than last week and 22.4 cents more than a month ago, but $1.339 less than at this time last year and $2.665 less than the record high of $4.626 set on June 21, according to figures from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

The average price in Orange County rose 1.5 cents Tuesday to $1.957, 12.7 cents more than last week and 23.7 cents more than a month ago, but $1.277 less than at this time last year and $2.641 less than the record high of $4.598 set on June 19.

The Orange County average price has risen 15 consecutive days -- including four-tenths of a cent from Sunday to Monday -- and 26 times in the past 27 days.

The national average price was unchanged, remaining at $1.79, 10.2 cents more than a week ago and 12.7 cents more than last month, but $1.28 less than this time last year and $2.324 less than the record high of $4.114 set July 17.

California's gasoline prices are typically higher than the national average and among the highest in the nation because of taxes and a longtime state law mandating a "boutique blend" of fuel to reduce polluting emissions.
