Bail reduced for coach accused of having sex with teen

SANTA ANA -- A 37-year-old man accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl while he was a gymnastics coach in Tustin got his bail reduced Thursday.

Jason Wayne Scofield, who lived in Fullerton before enlisting in the Army sometime after June, met the girl while coaching at Wildfire Gymnastics in Tustin and allegedly had sex with her numerous times in his car and at his Fullerton home, said Farrah Emami of the Orange County District Attorney's office.

A "concerned friend" e-mailed the girl's parents about the alleged relationship, Emami said.

Charges were filed Sept. 18, he was extradited from Arizona to Orange County Wednesday, she said.

Scofield is charged with two felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two felony counts of oral copulation of a minor, a felony count of sodomy of a person under 18, two felony counts of digital penetration of a minor and a felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object. He faces up to seven years and eight months in prison if convicted.

In court Thursday, his 250,000 bail was reduced to $100,000, according to his attorney, Paul S. Meyer.

"We agree with the court's decision to substantially reduce bail today based on all of the facts," Meyer said. "I consider it inappropriate to promote specific facts during a pending case. We look forward to a successful resolution."

This guy is a major creeper! I am sad to think that the gym he was working for did not notice anything 'too close' between them both.

ITS ILLEGAL FOR A REASON! IT's CALLED TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A MINOR = JAIL TIME. sounds like honestable needs to seek counsil, seriously. If honestable sees not problem with this then they are potential offenders.

It shouldn't be a crime to have sex with someone just because they are younger than the other person. At 16 you know what you're doing. The girl wasn't forced into haveing sex with this guy. She should go to jail also and so should the girls friend. It sounds like the friend is jealous.
