DIAMOND BAR — Three people were being treated Friday for injuries suffered in a four-vehicle crash that killed a 37-year-old off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer in Diamond Bar.

One critically injured person was flown by rescue helicopter to a hospital, and two others were taken to hospitals by ambulance.

The officer was identified by the coroner's office as Jacqueline Montalvo, 37, of Rowland Heights. Montalvo was a 1991 graduate of Schurr High School in Montebello.

The crash occurred at 5:32 p.m. Thursday on Grand Avenue at Longview Drive in east Diamond Bar, said Lt. John Saleeby of the Walnut-Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station.

One vehicle was northbound on Grand Avenue when it collided with a
southbound vehicle on Grand, causing a chain-reaction collision with two other vehicles, Saleeby said. Montalvo, who was assigned to the Hollywood Division, died in the crash, and three other people were taken to hospitals, including one who was flown by helicopter, he said.

Montalvo was driving the vehicle that swerved and collided head-on
with the southbound vehicle, initiating the chain-reaction crash, a sheriff's captain at the scene told an On Scene Video camera crew.

Jackie was a hard worker and did not back down in time of danger and or to assist a fellow officer. While at work she was didicated 100% to her career and in her heart the well being of the residentes of Hollywood was her primary concern. Jackie made numerous arrest making Hollywood a safer place for the residents and visitors and this I saw with my own eyes. Jackie may you rest in peace and I know that you will continue to smile from heaven upon us as you did while we worked together.
