LOS ANGELES — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and City Council members Richard Alarcon, Eric Garcetti, Wendy Greuel and Janice Hahn attended Tuesday’s presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Garcetti, the City Council president and an early supporter of Barack Obama, said he is “excited about working with the Obama administration on an urban agenda that will put people back to work, keep people in their homes and give future generations access to high-quality educational opportunities.”

“There is so much work to do to put our nation back on track, and the fate of our communities is bound to the fate of our country like never before,” Garcetti said.

City Councilman Bernard Parks said Obama “has made America and the world proud with what he has achieved and how he has conducted himself.”

“He was elected on character and integrity,” Parks said. “We want him to stay true to these traits and true to himself as he becomes the leader of the free world.”

Villaraigosa will be in Washington, D.C. through Wednesday. He is attending the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting, which concludes Monday.
Villaraigosa will deliver remarks at the Latino State of the Union on Monday at the second annual Roundtable on Law, Policy and Civil Rights.

Councilwoman Jan Perry is serving as acting mayor with Villaraigosa, Garcetti and Greuel out of the city.
