Nightingale students seek Science Bowl

GLASSELL PARK — A team from Nightingale Middle School will compete in the finals of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl April 30-May 5 in Washington, D.C.

The team finished first at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers’ Regional Science Bowl at Cal State Los Angeles in February.

Students Brittany Ayala, Rubi Gomez, Bayron Lopez, Roberto Orneles, Monica Ramon, Juan Sanchez and Kington Tse will compete against 36 other middle school teams from around the nation.

The Department of Energy launched its National Science Bowl competition in 1991 to encourage high school students to excel in science and math and to pursue careers in those fields. The competition now involves more than 20,000 students nationwide.

Teams must answer a range of multiple choice and short-answer questions in math, chemistry, biology, physics, earth science and general science in the competition.
