David Hall scored 21 points and Raymond Alexander III added 18 to lead Lynwood High School past Warren, 62-37 Friday in a San Gabriel Valley League boys basketball game.
The Knights (13-6, 2-0) also got 13 points from Marcus Huff.
They led, 32-17 at halftime and maintained that 15-point margin until outscoring the Bears, 18-8 over the final eight minutes.
Lynwood and Gahr (17-2, 2-0) share the league lead. The Gladiators edged Dominguez, 92-91 in overtime Friday to remain unbeaten in league. Evan Ware (34 points) scored with two seconds left in overtime to give Gahr the victory.
In a nonleague game Saturday, Lynwood defeated Cathedral, 80-69. Alexander had 38 points and Hall 23.
Downey (8-10, 1-1) leveled its San Gabriel Valley League record with a 49-47 victory over Paramount Friday.
Erick Gomez led Downey with 20 points.
Suburban League
Norwalk 45, Glenn 27
Manuel Castaneda had 12 points and six rebounds as Norwalk (9-10, 2-2) topped Glenn, 45-27 in a Suburban League game. Cammie Lewis added nine points and Terrence Traylor had 11 rebounds for the Lancers, who led by 10 points at halftime.
Glenn is 1-12, 0-4.
Girls basketball
San Gabriel Valley League
Downey 58, Paramount 34
Katie Marifian scored 24 points and Irma Urzua hit five 3-point shots as Downey (8-10, 2-0) maintained its hold on first place in the San Gabriel Valley League.
The Vikings took control with a 19-4 second quarter to go ahead 34-13 at the half.
Paramount fell to 4-10, 0-2.
Lynwood 71, Warren 52
Lynwood (9-4, 2-0) outscored Warren, 40-24 in the second and third quarters to take command of the San Gabriel Valley League contest.
Danielle Rodriguez led Warren (15-4, 1-1) with 22 points, five assists and four rebounds. Frances Vaaulu added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Bears.
Suburban League
Glenn 48, Norwalk 42
Glenn (9-4, 2-1) built a 28-20 lead by halftime and went on to defeat Norwalk, 48-42 in Suburban League play.
Alexis Love led Norwalk (8-10, 0-4) with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Brittany Jimenez added seven points for the Lancers.
Wrestling
Led by five individual winners, Downey’s wrestling team took the team championship at the Troy Tournament.
The Vikings had 162.5 points to finish well ahead of Millikan, which had 129.
Individual champions for Downey were Ivan Garibay (119), Brandon McDonald (171), Kenneth Lee (189), Rudy Calderon (215) and Robert Chism (heavyweight). This was the third tourney title for Garibay, now 23-4.
McDonald is now 28-2 with 24 pins. Lee recorded four pins in his weight class.
Downey wrestlers Jacob Barberena (125), Josh Ho (130) and Aaron Esquer (145) placed third.
