Lincoln hosts softball tourney

Lincoln High School’s softball team, which has split its first four games, resumes play in its own Lincoln Classic Saturday with a pair of games.

The Tigers host Verdugo Hills at 8:30 a.m. and L.A. Baptist at noon.

In the early going, the City Section’s Northern League school has been led by Angelica Felix, who is batting .700 with six RBIs, and Jenny Ly, hitting .556 with four RBIs. Pitcher Emily Krantz is 2-2 with a 2.33 ERA.

In their 2-1 nonleague loss to South East Monday, Felix went 3 for 3 with a double and run scored and Andrea Acosta had a single and RBI. Krantz pitched a 6-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.

After opening the season with a 17-9 nonleague loss to Westchester, Lincoln defeated Banning, 8-3 and Long Beach Cabrillo, 10-0 in the first two rounds of its tournament.

Felix and Jessica Zapata each had two hits and two RBIs against Banning.

Against Cabrillo, Vanessa Hernandez went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Ly went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. Krantz threw 1-hit ball over five inning, striking out six and walking one.

Arcadia Elks Tournament

Alhambra won its first two games in the Arcadia Elks Tournament over the weekend.

The Moors defeated Hoover, 9-3 Friday and Beverly Hills, 5-4 Saturday.

Against Hoover, Juan Crespo went  3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Isaiah Marin and Greg Saldate were each 2 for 3 and Juan Morales had a double and three RBIs for Alhambra. Jonathan Beltran picked up the win with five innings of 3-hit ball.

Marin, Morales and Crespi all had a hit and RBI against Beverly Hills. Gary Acuna got the win by pitching five innings.

Montebello Tournament
Montebello scored three in the first inning and two in the fifth and went on to defeat West Covina, 5-2 Monday in its own tourney.

The Oilers blanked Bosco Tech, 4-0 last Friday as Anthony Millian drove in three runs with a home run and single and Alex Guerrero  went 3 for 3. Millian pitched the first five innings for the win and Guerrero finished up on the mound.

Newport Elks Tournament
Segerstrom defeated Schurr, 3-1 Monday in the Newport Elks Tourney.

The Spartans, now 0-2, were led by Christian Madrid, who was 3 for 4, Carlos Arredondo, 2 for 2, and Robert Scothorn, 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Warren topped Compton, 8-6 in another Newport Elks game Monday. Christian Rodriguez struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings of 1-hit ball for the Bears (1-1).

El Segundo Tournament
Cathedral blasted South East, 16-5 Monday in the El Segundo Tournament.

Javier Escamilla went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI for South East (1-1).
