Cerritos College’s softball team bounced back from its first South Coast Conference loss with a 10-2 rout of East L.A. Tuesday.

The Falcons, who lost to ELAC earlier this season, scored six times in the first inning and rode that to a five-inning, mercy-rule victory.

Cerritos now takes records of 23-4 overall and 9-1 in the SCC into Thursday’s 2 p.m. nonconference game at Cypress.

East L.A. is 20-5, 3-5.

In the first inning, sophomore shortstop Cassandra Godoy (Downey High School) singled and stole second base with one out before sophomore first baseman Ashley Ventura (Carson) was hit by a pitch. Sophomore catcher Samantha Vaaulu (Warren) followed with an RBI single, while an error by East L.A. third baseman Monica Robles allowed another run to score.

Sophomore outfielder Devin Salmones followed with an RBI-single before Robles committed her second error of the inning. A two-run double by sophomore third baseman Brandi Rummell and a sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Natalie Garcia closed the scoring in the inning.

Sophomore pitcher Hillary Perez-Ashley cruised through the first three innings before encountering trouble in the fourth. After loading the bases, Perez-Ashley (18-1) was replaced by freshman Jessica Lozano (Banning), who finished the game.

Godoy went 4-for-4 with three RBI, while six other players had one hit. Rummell had two RBIs.

Baseball
Cerritos College freshman pitcher Nick Quezada was looking to throw his second straight complete game Tuesday when he faced L.A. Harbor.

But Harbor (7-11-1, 4-3) broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth inning after Quezada gave up a single, walk and hit a batter to load the bases.

Sophomore Skye Severns, who came on in relief, allowed all three runners to score. William Loza drive in two with a base hit, while a wild pitch allowed in the third run.

Cerritos (7-11, 3-4) hosts Long Beach City at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the start of the second round of conference games, which are home-and-home series.

The Falcons had chances to score, but stranded nine runners.

Jacob Eaton went 3-for-5 for Cerritos.

Abraham Ramirez (1-0) picked up the win, while Scott Livergood earned his second save for the Seahawks.
