Inglewood High School faces one more hurdle in its quest to return to state.

The Sentinels, who lost in last year’s State Division III girls basketball championship game, take on Bishop Amat at 10 a.m. Saturday at USC’s Galen Center in the Southern Regional Division III final. The winner moves on to next week’s state title game in Bakersfield.

They are facing a Bishop Amat team that will be looking for some revenge since the Sentinels defeated the Lancers, 63-48 a couple of weeks ago in the Southern Section Division III-AA semifinals.

Amat (26-7) has fought its way through the regionals as the No. 5 seed, upsetting No. 4 Agoura in the second round and No. 1 Santa Margarita in the semis.

Inglewood (30-5), the No. 3 seed, has yet to be tested in the regionals and is coming off an 85-60 rout of San Diego Mt. Miguel on the road Saturday.

Leading the way for the Sentinels are 6-1 junior Deajanae Scurry, who scored 35 points and grabbed 15 rebounds against Mt. Miguel, and senior point guard Hazel Ramirez, who averages 12.5 points, 5.0 assists and 3.6 steals per game. Senior forward Noelini Tuiasoa averages 9.5 points per game.

Bishop Amat, which went to four consecutive state finals from 2004-07, winning it all in 2005 and 2006, has been led by 5-9 senior Arielle Wideman, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first meeting with Inglewood and 15 points and eight rebounds in the regional semis.

Other key players for the Lancers are 5-11 senior Alexis Wideman, 5-2 sophomore Michelle Yamamoto and 5-6 sophomore Gina Henderson, who came off the bench to score 16 points in the semis.

To the parents of students at Inglewood High: Why has a school security guard (Troy Paige) been allowed to victimize the female students. Troy was recently arrested from the school for forcing female students into prostitution. The school districts answer was to move Troy to Hillcrest continuation school, where he is allowed to victimize more of our female students. Parents, this is an extreme tragedy! If this bothers you, please address the District and ask WHY!
