ASU holds off Trojans, 59-54

Paced by Rihards Kuksiks, who scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, including a pair of free throws with 14.6 seconds remaining, Arizona State held on to beat USC 59-54 Thursday night in Pac-10 men’s basketball action.

Derek Glasser scored 11 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and Ty Abbott had nine for the Sun Devils (21-9, 11-6 Pac-10), who won for the seventh time in nine games to clinch second place in the conference.

Marcus Simmons and Mike Gerrity had 11 points each for the Trojans (16-13, 8-9), who are 2-6 on the road in league play.

USC closes the season at Arizona Saturday. The Trojans are ineligible for next week’s Pac-10 Tournament.
