View Park Prep High School boys basketball coach Brian Taylor, a former Princeton star, will be honored during halftime ceremonies Saturday of the Harvard-Princeton game.

Taylor took a flight to New Jersey following Thursday’s City Section Small Schools title game between View Park and L.A. Center for Enriched Studies. LACES won, 58-56.

A guard, he played at Princeton from 1969-72, scoring 1,239 points (10th all-time) and averaging 24.3 points per game in his two seasons with the Tigers. He was twice All-Ivy League and the Ivy rookie of the year as a sophomore in an era when freshmen were ineligible for the varsity.

He turned pro after his junior season and was the ABA rookie of the year in 1973 with the New York Nets. He played four years with the Nets, then finished up in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, San Diego Clippers and Kansas City Kings before retiring in 1982.

Taylor, who earned his degree from Princeton in 1984, has a son, Bryce, who starred at Harvard-Westlake High and the University of Oregon and is currently playing professionally in Germany. Another son, Brendyn, is currently a sophomore starter for View Park.
