True freshman running back Jesse Callier from Warren High School and redshirt freshman quarterback Keith Price from St. John Bosco stood out during Washington’s first fall football scrimmage.

Callier was the leading rusher for the Huskies, carrying five times for 66 yards.
Chris Polk, the projected starter at tailback going into fall drills, had 44 yards and a touchdown on three carries.

Price, a Compton native, was 11-for-17 for 130 yards and a touchdown, while splitting time with starter Jake Locker (3-for-4 for 99 yards, TD) and Nick Montana (14-for-20 for 123 yards, TD).

Price’s TD pass was a 70-yarder to Cody Bruns.

“The key to this day was to see our young kids play,” Washington coach Steve Sarkisian said. “Obviously (I wanted to see) our two young quarterbacks, but all of them: the linemen to the (linebackers) to the DBs to the wideouts. To see them play and see them get through the first couple series and get through the jitters and anxiety.”

The Huskies open the season Sept. 4 at BYU.
