Tennessee waives Stafon

Seemingly there’s no end to the blows being dealt Stafon Johnson.

The former Dorsey High School and USC standout, who was hoping to make a football comeback as an undrafted rookie with the Tennessee Titans this fall, was waived by the club Tuesday, just two days after dislocating his right ankle and breaking his fibula in the Titans’ 20-18 preseason loss at Seattle. Before the move, coach Jeff Fisher estimated the running back would be out up to 12 weeks recovering from Monday’s surgery.

Johnson, whose college career was ended last fall by a weight lifting accident that crushed his neck, was replaced by the signing of running back Simon Gado, who has 972 yards rushing in stints with Green Bay, Houston, Miami and St. Louis.
