Marron has big night for Oilers

Joseph Marron ran for 146 yards and a touchdown last Friday to help Montebello High School get out of the gate fast with a 14-0 victory over Bellflower in a nonleague football game.

Marron, who carried 26 times, scored on a seven-yard run and led an offense that got most of its production on the ground.

Marcus Owens added 47 yards on seven carries and Eric Espinosa had 46 on six. Quarterback Dylan Gomez ran for the other TD and completed eight of 12 passes for 41 yards.

Travis Newberry led Bellflower with 70 yards on nine carries.

The Bucs were paced defensively by Marquis Patton (nine solo tackles, three assists) and Johny Allmond (10 solos, an assist).

Montebello hosts Baldwin Park and Bellflower is home against Victor Valley Friday in nonlegue action.

Trevor Olson completed 14 of 24 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns to lead Cathedral past San Gabriel, 26-10 in a nonleague opener.

Both scoring passes went to Anthony Jefferson, who had four catches for 127 yards.

Kristaan Ivory led the Phantom ground attack with 182 yards and two scores on 13 carries.

San Gabriel quarterback Isaac Valdez was 14-of-29 for 154 yards and a TD. He also rushed 13 times for 50 yards.

Running back Fabian Amaro carried 17 times for 86 yards and caught four passes for 50 yards and a TD.

Jose Escobar passed for 234 yards and three TDs and ran for another score to lead Glenn past Santa Ana Valley, 28-26.

The scoring tosses went to Rahmad Green (64 yards), Clinton Greenway (44) and J.D. Bernard (39). Bernard rushed for 114 yards.

The difference for the Eagles turned out to be placekicker Chris Uribe, who converted all four point-afters.

Billy Moore carried four times for 164 yards and TDs of 65 and 30 yards as Norwalk crushed overmatched South El Monte, 63-3. The Lancers rushed for 400 yards as a team.

Norwalk is at Los Amigos Friday.

Jesse Callier returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a score and added 169 yards and four TDs rushing as Warren routed Torrance, 42-10.

The Bears host Santa Fe Friday.

Art Franco scored three TDs (two runs and a reception) to help El Rancho defeat West Covina, 28-17.

Franco finished with 126 yards on 21 carries and Joshua Lopez added 43 yards and a TD on 15 carries to lead the Dons’ ground attack.

Quarterback Josh Perea completed eight of 11 passes for 74 yards.

The Dons face Cerritos at Gahr Friday.

Dillon Welsh passed for two TDs and ran for another and Johnny Calderon scored three TDs as Bosco Tech eased past Contreras, 35-14.

Welsh was 9-of-14 for 195 yards, including scoring passes to Calderon and Devon Welsh (three catches for 77 yards). Calderon carried 16 times for 106 yards.

Jesus Pasten led the defense with 11 solo tackles and four assists.

In a game involving an Eastern League team, South East defeated North Hollywood, 21-2.

Robert Lewis had 149 yards and two scores to lead the Jaguars, who limited North Hollywood to 188 yards. Fernando Magana scored the other TD on a pass reception.

North Hollywood’s only points came on a safety in the third quarter when South East quarterback Gilberto Rivera was sacked in the end zone.

Miguel Montes and Allen Hall were each involved in nine tackles for South East, which faces Narbonne Friday. David Godoy had an interception.
