Callier runs wild against Whittier

It was Jesse Callier’s stated goal prior to the season get 3,000 yards rushing and 50 touchdowns as a senior.

The Warren High School tailback is making every effort to achieve those lofty goals.

In a nonleague game last week, Callier rushed for 447 yards and six touchdowns as the Bears rolled to a 54-21 nonleague victory over Whittier.

He scored on runs of 23, nine, 10 and 15 yards during a first half in which the Bears (3-0) were building a 27-7 lead.
The big night ran his season totals to 837 yards and 14 TDs on 53 carries.

Bailey Cowins caught four passes for 78 yards and scored on a run from scrimmage and Josh Callier ran for a TD for Warren. Sam Bettancourt was 7-of-12 for 106 yards passing.

Whittier’s Alex Gonzalez returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a TD.

Matt Viramontes was 9-of-21 for 146 yards and a score for the Cardinals (1-1), who play at Roosevelt (3-0) Friday. Warren has a bye this week.

Norwalk (3-0), which normally relies strictly on the ground game, mixed in a little passing in its 32-14 victory over Pacifica.

Dominique Diaz completed four of five passes for 86 yards, including scoring tosses to Ryan Martinez and Elijhaa Penny in the nonleague victory.

Penny also ran for a TD and contributed to the Lancers gaining 301 yards on the ground.

Adrian Gonzales carried 18 times for 101 yards and a TD and Billy Moore carried 17 times for 91 yards.

Manuel Corona added a field goal for the Lancers, who take on Paramount at Excelsior Thursday.

Taj Davis scored on a 27-yard pass from Lawrence Hill and an 11-yard run as Paramount (2-0) defeated Bellflower, 35-14.

Greg Lindsay, Deon Moore and Jeramie Jackson also had TDs for the Pirates, who led, 28-7 after three quarters.

Jeremy Allen was 17-of-26 for 216 yards and two TDs for Bellflower. Dijon Barnes (six catches for 84 yards) and Benny Perez caught the scoring passes for the Bucs.

Alex Flores completed 13 of 22 passes for 244 yards and two TDs and ran for a score to lead Santa Fe past Bonita, 43-22. The scoring passes went to Andrew Jackson and Cameron Oliver.

William Warner had three scoring runs for the Chiefs.

Centennial outlasted Lynwood, 45-35, H.H. Wilson defeated Glenn, 35-14 and Los Angeles got by Firebaugh, 21-14 in other nonleague action.

Quarterback Nelson Gammage and wideout Kevin Smith hooked up for a pair of scoring passes in Centennial’s victory over the Knights (0-2). Shaka Henry returned two kickoffs for touchdowns for the Apaches (1-1).

Firebaugh (0-3) fell short despite second-half TDs from Kenneth Moore and Carlos Galvan.
