Franco, Perea key runaway for E.R.

Art Franco scored three touchdowns and Josh Perea passed for two and ran for one as El Rancho High School raced past Montebello, 42-7 last Friday in a nonleague football game.

The Dons are now 3-1 heading into a bye week. They return to action Oct. 8 at St. Francis. Montebello, 1-3, hosts Nogales Friday.

El Rancho scored 21 first-half points, was held scoreless in the third period, then put the final 21 points up in the fourth quarter.

Franco carried 17 times for 110 yards and two TDs and caught four passes for 60 yards and another score.

Perea was 11-of-16 for 113 yards and two TDs passing. Both scoring passes went to Anthony Ayala (five catches for 38 yards).

Eric Espinosa was most of Montebello’s offense with 30 carries for 150 yards and a TD.

Oiler quarterback Dylan Gomez was 7-of-12 for 63 yards, but was intercepted three times.

Darrian Cazarin threw for 215 yards and three TDs to guide Alhambra (2-1) to a 21-17 win over L.A. Wilson in nonleague action.

Cazarin, who was 9-of-16, had 80- and 30-yard scoring passes to Joseph Becerra (five catches for 163 yards) and a seven-yarder to Mitchell Crockom.

Vailele Peko carried 13 times for 82 yards and had an interception on defense for the Moors.

Ray Gasque (9-of-18 for 68 yards) threw scoring passes of seven yards to Cole Martinez and 15 yards to Emmanuel Soto for Wilson.

Eddie Rodriguez accounted for other points with a 25-yard field goal.

Aaron Cantu was 10-of-10 for 252 yards and three touchdowns in Schurr’s 42-0 rout of H.H. Wilson.

The Spartans (2-1) scored on their first five possessions and never looked back against a team that is also 2-1.

Cantu had a pair of scoring passes to Chris Chirmonte (three catches for 116 yards) and one to Carlos Arredondo (four for 75). Nicholas Castillo led the ground attack with 24 carries for 142 yards and a TD. Nathan Ayon also had a rushing TD for the Spartans.

Bell Gardens (3-0) did all the scoring in the second half to knock off Long Beach Cabrillo, 18-12.

Trailing, 12-7 at halftime, the Lancers got a third-quarter touchdown and two-point conversion and a fourth-quarter field goal of 25 yards by Ray Saavedra to wipe out the deficit.

Steve Ibarra carried 22 times for 110 yards and caught a pass for the two-point conversion. Quarterback Josh Adame and running back Daniel Vargas had rushing touchdowns for the Lancers.

Isaac Valdez completed 17 of 23 passes for 264 yards and three TDs to lead San Gabriel (2-2) past Contreras, 28-2.

Valdez had scoring passes to Fabian Amaro, Andres Fernandez and Robert Ramirez. Amaro, who also had a rushing TD, carried 10 times for 91 yards and caught five passes for 57.

Mark Covarrubias had seven catches for 136 yards for the Matadors.

Pomona blanked Keppel, 14-0 in another nonleague game. Keppel is 0-3.

Steven Lavin’s 42-yard field goal in the second quarter was the only score for Cantwell Sacred Heart (2-1), which fell to Santa Clara, 8-3.

Lavin was the top offensive player for the Cardinals with 89 yards rushing on 15 carries. Quarterback Christian Espinoza was 7-of-29 for 104 yards and Jonathan Mesa caught four passes for 73 yards.

Santa Clara (1-2) recorded a safety in the third quarter and a touchdown in the fourth.
