Having posted its first victory in game five, the Lincoln High School football team looks to make it two in a row in a more meaningful game — its Northern League opener.
The Tigers, 30-12 winners over Monroe in their last outing, host Belmont (3-2) at 7 p.m. Friday. Belmont edged South Gate, 22-20 last Friday.
Caleb Cabrera, who was 11-of-17 for 129 yards and two touchdowns against Monroe, leads Lincoln offensively. His favorite target is Andrew Medrano, who had nine catches for 120 yards and both scores.
Michael Cardiel ran for a TD and Alex Luna kicked a 21-yard field goal to account the Tigers’ other offensive scores.
Daniel Jimenez led the defense with five solo tackles and two assists and Mark Sanchez had two sacks.
In Belmont’s victory over South Gate, Jose Tapia’s 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter was the difference. Tapia also caught a scoring pass from Adrian Estala, who was 9-of-22 for 129 yards. Estala ran for two scores and finished with 36 yards rushing on 11 carries.
Edgar Aguilar led the Belmont ground game with 115 yards on 14 carries. He also caught four passes for 52 yards and was in on nine tackles on defense.
Marvin Molina added an interception.
Franklin (3-1) is at Wilson (1-4) in another Northern League opener.
The Panthers defeated Palisades, 24-7, while Wilson edged Fairfax, 48-42 in last Friday’s games.
Eagle Rock (1-3) is at Marshall (2-3) in the other league opener.

Cantwell Sacred Heart (3-2), a 35-13 winner over Villanova Prep last week, faces it severest test of the season when it visits Cathedral (5-0) Saturday in a nonleague game.
Stopping Cathedral’s explosive offense will be quite a challenge for the Cardinals.
The Phantoms are led by the state’s second-leading passer in Trevor Olson, who has thrown for 1,617 yards and 21 TDs with just two interceptions. He completed 18 of 25 for 313 yards and five TDs in their most recent game, a 69-7 thrashing of Santa Clara.
There are other Phantoms to worry about.
Kristaan Ivory rushed for 139 yards and three TDs on five carries and caught a scoring pass and Anthony Jefferson caught five passes for 134 yards and three scores against Santa Clara. Kyle Merrill caught three passes for 95 yards and returned an interception 52 yards for a TD.
In Cantwell’s win over Villanova Prep, Christian Espinoza was 10 of 18 for 184 yards and a TD and Steven Lavin carried 18 times for 181 yards and two TDs. Steven Sinde caught five passes for 89 yards and a score.

Salesian (4-2) opens Santa Fe League play at St. Monica.
The Mustangs are attempting to bounce back from a 7-3 loss to Mary Star. St. Monica (2-2), which had a bye last week, routed Lucerne Valley, 42-0 in its last game.

Almont League play kicks off Friday with Alhambra (3-1) at Schurr (3-1-1), Montebello (2-3) at Bell Gardens (4-1) and San Gabriel (2-3) at Keppel (1-4).
Bell Gardens edged Paramount, 24-21, Whittier topped Schurr, 24-7, San Marino edged San Gabriel, 14-13 and South Pasadena defeated Keppel, 26-14 in games last week. Alhambra and Montebello had byes.
In San Gabriel’s loss, Matador quarterback Isaac Valdez was 13 of 30 for 206 yards and two TDs. He also rushed for 74 yards on nine carries.
