Nobody will be happier to see Jesse Callier graduate from Warren High School than the Lynwood football team.

A year after torching the Knights for 340 yards rushing, the University of Washington-bound Callier got them for 294 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-21 victory last Friday that improved the Bears to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the San Gabriel Valley League.

Warren shares the top spot with crosstown rival Downey. Lynwood, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, is 4-3 overall and 1-1 in league. The Knights are tied with Gahr in the standings.

Most of the damage done by Callier was in the first half when Warren was building a 35-7 lead. By the break, the senior tailback had rushed for 211 yards and all three scores.

His 62-yard scoring run less than two minutes into the contest set the tone for the rest of the night.

Sam Bettancourt added a scoring pass to Bailey Cowins.

Callier was also busy on defense with six tackles. Teammate Josh Guerrero had six tackles and Cowins picked off a pass.

Desmond Williams had a 70-yard scoring run for Lynwood.

Warren hosts Paramount and Lynwood hosts Gahr at Lynwood Middle School Friday.
