Cazarin paces Alhambra

Darrian Cazarin had another huge passing night, every bit of yardage which was needed for Alhambra High School to hold off Montebello, 32-27 last Friday in an Almont League football game.

He completed 20 of 29 for 335 yards and three touchdowns to improve to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league. Montebello is 2-5, 0-2.

Cazarin’s favorite target all season, Mitchell Crockom, hauled 31- and 16-yard scoring passes. Crockom finished with six catches for 82 yards.

Brandon Wilson scored on a four-yard run and a 27-yard pass. Cazarin ran two yards for the Moors’ final score.

Joseph Becerra was actually Alhambra’s leading receiver with seven for 123 yards. Vailele Peko caught four for 84 yards.

Defensively, Josh Curiel was in on nine tackles and Crockom had a 20-yard interception return.

Augustine Gonzalez gave the Oilers a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when he returned an interception nine yards for a TD.

Joseph Marron, who carried 25 times for 152 yards, scored three TDs on runs of 11, one and seven yards for the Oilers.

In other Almont League action, San Gabriel pounded Bell Gardens, 49-28 and Schurr topped Keppel, 28-7.

Isaac Valdez completed 27 of 39 passes for 407 yards and three TDs, all to Alex Lopez (nine catches for 122 yards) to lead San Gabriel. Andres Fernandez caught eight for 177 yards.

Camino Real League
Mary Star scored all of its points in the final quarter to defeat Cantwell Sacred Heart, 14-6 in a Camino Real League game.

Cantwell quarterback Christian Espinoza was 13-of-31 for 219 yards and Steven Lavin carried 24 times for 123 yards and a TD.

The Cardinals (3-4, 0-1) are at Bosco Tech (4-3, 0-2) Friday.

Bosco Tech lost to Verbum Dei, 35-30 last week.

Marvin Morales carried 17 times for 236 yards, while Chris Alvarez and Dillon Welsh each had scoring passes for Tech.

Verbum Dei (5-2, 2-0) was led by Darryl Williams, who threw for 235 yards and three TDs, and Anthony Charles, who ran for 138 yards and a score. Fred Edison caught two scoring passes and ran for a TD.

Santa Fe League
Salesian (1-6, 1-0), which saw its impressive overall record undone by four nonleague forfeits, is still in the hunt in the Santa Fe League.

The Mustangs, 41-18 winners over St. Monica Oct. 17 in their one victory that stood up, continues league play Friday at St. Anthony (4-3, 0-1). Salesian had a bye last week. St. Anthony lost to St. Genevieve, 37-23.

Northern League
Preston Oliver ran for 270 yards and two TDs to lead Marshall past Lincoln, 28-0 in a Northern League contest. Brian Flores added a pair of scoring passes for the Barristers, who improved to 5-2 and 2-0.

Caleb Cabrera was 10-of-18 for 107 yards passing for Lincoln (2-5, 1-1).

In other Northern League games, Franklin routed Belmont, 44-21 and Wilson blanked Eagle Rock, 27-0.

Franklin (5-1, 2-0) shares the lead with Marshall. Belmont is 3-4, 0-2.

Wilson is 2-5, 1-1 and Eagle Rock is 1-5, 0-2.

Friday’s schedule has Lincoln at Franklin and Marshall at Wilson. Belmont is at Eagle Rock at 2 p.m. Saturday.
