Cantwell girls rout La Salle

A fast start enabled the Cantwell Sacred Heart High School girls basketball team to settle Tuesday’s Camino Real League basketball game with La Salle rather quickly.

The Cardinals (13-6, 2-1), who share first place with St. Bernard (10-12, 2-1), raced to a 15-4 lead after eight minutes and never looked back in rolling to a 62-25 victory over the visitors from Pasadena.

Patricia Luna had 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a contest in which Cantwell led, 30-9 at halftime and 48-17 through three periods.

Jordan Santiago had 10 points and seven rebounds, Jacqueline Huerta had nine points and four assists and Andria Hernandez grabbed seven rebounds for Cantwell.

The Cardinals return to action Jan. 25 at home with a nonleague game against Pacific Hills. They return to league play Jan. 26 at home against St. Monica (11-8, 1-1).

Almont League

Keppel 61, Montebello 33
Alyson Luck scored 15 points and Kiley Smith had 14 to lead Keppel (8-10, 3-0) past Montebello, 61-33 Tuesday in an Almont League girls game. The Aztecs are tied for first with Alhambra.

Schurr 57, Bell Gardens 50
Michele Yup scored 20 points and Tori Saruwatari had 12 points and five assists as Schurr (8-10, 1-2) used a strong fourth quarter to knock off Bell Gardens, 57-50. The Spartans outscored Bell Gardens, 19-12 over the final eight minutes.

Kiana Kayoda had six points, seven rebounds and six steals for Schurr.

Bell Gardens is 8-8 overall, 1-2 in league.

Alhambra 64, San Gabriel 14
Alhambra (14-4, 3-0) maintained its share of the lead in the Almont race by routing San Gabriel, 64-14.
