Lynwood holds off Downey

Raymond Alexander III scored 20 points as Lynwood High School defeated Downey, 49-45 Friday in a San Gabriel Valley League boys basketball game.

The Knights built a 22-15 lead by halftime and held off the Vikings in the second half to improve to 14-6 overall and 4-0 in league.

Cedric Ross had 13 points and David Hall added 12 for the Knights, who hold a one-game lead over Gahr.

David Rivera paced the Vikings (9-11, 2-2) with 14 points.

Lynwood hosts Paramount and Downey is home against Gahr Friday.

Gahr 85, Warren 46
Ervin Ware had 20 points and six assists as Gahr (17-3, 3-1) routed Warren, 85-46 in SGVL play Friday. The Gladiators raced to a 47-28 lead by halftime and never looked back.

Davon Potts had 16 points, Anthony Martinez had 14, Javonte Sales 11 points, five rebounds and five assists and John Benson 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Gladiators.

Warren hosts Dominguez Friday.

Paramount 73, Dominguez 71
The Pirates (12-8, 2-2) edged Dominguez in the other league game on the schedule. The Dons are 5-11, 1-3.

Suburban League
Artesia 67, Glenn 29

Artesia routed Glenn, 67-29 behind Santiago Fajardo’s 19 points. The Pioneers are 9-10, 4-2.

La Mirada 43, Norwalk 39
La Mirada got past Norwalk, 43-39 behind Connor Gillett’s 17 points. The Matadores are 9-12, 3-3).

Anthony Holliday and Manuel Castaneda had 11 points each for Norwalk (10-11, 3-3).

San Gabriel Valley League
Lynwood 71, Downey 47

Lynwood broke open a close game for a half by outscoring Downey, 36-15 over the final 16 minutes to win, 71-47 Friday in San Gabriel Valley League play.

The Knights (11-5, 4-0) hold a one-game lead over Downey (9-11, 3-1) and Warren (17-4, 3-1).
Katie Marifian scored 25 points to lead Downey. Demetria Love and Rayana Villalpondo scored six each for the Vikings.

Warren 63, Gahr 39
Frances Vaaulu collected 18 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots and Justene Reyes had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Warren past Gahr, 63-39 in the SGVL game.

Danielle Rodriguez added 15 points, six assists, four blocked shots and four steals for the Bears, who built a 32-16 lead by halftime.

Suburban League
Norwalk 48, La Mirada 26

Alexis Love had 17 points and Brittany Jimenez added as Norwalk (10-10, 2-4) toppled La Mirada, 48-26.

Del Rio League
Santa Fe 60, Pioneer 25

Alexus Guerrero had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead first-place Santa Fe (15-7, 5-0) past Pioneer, 60-25 in a Del Rio League game.

Tatiana Scott had nine points, while Jackie Saiza, Miranda Estrada and Alisa Bueno all had eight in the Chiefs’ balanced attack.

Whittier 62, California 28
Jeana Magana had 14 points and Loren Gurrola added 13 as Whittier (13-9, 4-1) routed California in the Del Rio League game. Destiny Chavez had 10 points, nine rebounds and six steals.
