Santa Monica routs Hawthorne

Santa Monica High School, the Ocean League leader in boys basketball, did a number on Hawthorne Wednesday.

The Vikings (15-5, 5-0) jumped out to a 26-8 lead after one quarter and never let up in the rout. They were up 48-21 at halftime, then outscored the Cougars, 30-7 in the third period.

A.J. Brevard led Hawthorne (9-13, 2-3) with 16 points. The next high scorer for the Cougars was Miles Green with six points.

Inglewood 53, Morningside 49
Julius Bilbrew and Joseff Singleton had 13 points each and Jamie Harper added 11 as Inglewood (13-7, 4-1) held off Morningside in the Ocean League contest.

Singleton also grabbed 10 rebounds and Gerald Evans had nine points and seven rebounds for the Sentnels.

D.J. Harris led Morningside (12-10, 1-4) with 21 points.

Del Rey League
Serra 76, Bishop Montgomery 62
Keith Shamburger had 12 points to lead Serra (21-1, 4-0) in the Del Rey League game.

Sheldon Blevins added 12 points and seven rebounds for Serra (21-1, 4-0) for the Cavaliers.

Marine League
Gardena 77, King-Drew 70

Christian Frankling had 23 points and Matt Morris added 18 points as Gardena (13-6, 4-2) topped King-Drew in the Marine League.

Washington Prep 76, Banning 53
J.B. Walker had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Washington Prep (13-6, 5-0). Chris Brown added 13 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Dioncee Holts led Banning (6-17, 0-5) with 14 points.

Western League
Westchester 70, University 41

Dwayne Polee had 17 points to lead visiting Westchester (18-3, 6-0). Reggie Murphy had 10 points and Kareem Jamar added nine points.

Northern League
Franklin 79, Belmont 38

Zeve Sanderson scored 27 points and was 3-of-3 on 3-pointers to lead Franklin (12-8, 5-0) to a 79-38 rout of Belmont in the Northern League. Sanderson also had seven assists and five rebounds.

Cesar Hernandez and Julio Duarte had 11 points each and Alex Perea and Anthony Quiroz added 10 each for the Panthers, who were never tested after racing to a 26-6 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Lincoln 53, Marshall 37
Willie McWilliams scored 29 points as Lincoln defeated Marshall, 53-37 in Northern League action.

Jonathan Ibarra added nine points for the Tigers (3-8, 3-1), who took control of the contest with an 18-5 second period.

Eastern League
Bell 51, Roosevelt 48

Charlie Diaz scored 17 points and Bell withstood a late rally by Roosevelt to win the Eastern League game, 51-48. The Eagles (8-9, 3-3) also got 11 points from Jonathan Cortez and 10 from Joel Sanchez.

Roosevelt is 4-13 overall, 0-6 in league.

Garfield 62, South East 59
Garfield (12-2, 4-2) bounced back from Monday’s loss at Jordan with a three-point victory over South East in the Eastern League.

Richie De La Cruz scored 23 points in a losing cause for South East (9-8, 3-3). Peter Rodriguez (14) and Brian Gonzalez (12) also scored in double figures.

Huntington Park  52, South Gate 41
The Spartans (14-12, 4-2) defeated South Gate by 11 points in Eastern League action.
