Warren girls overpower Dominguez

Warren High School barely broke a sweat Friday in keeping pace with the league leaders in the San Gabriel Valley League girls basketball race.

The Bears, who trail Lynwood by a game in the standings, crushed Dominguez, 59-7 to improve to 19-4 overall and 5-1 in league. They led, 22-2 after one quarter and 46-3 at halftime.

Sophomore point guard Danielle Rodriguez scored 18 points and Jasmin Mitchell added 11 for Warren. Elysha Rees had nine and Frances Vaaulu added seven.

Gahr 72, Downey 62

Gahr (13-9, 3-3) withstood a 31 point effort by Downey’s Katie Marifian to defeat the Vikings, 72-62 in the San Gabriel Valley League game.

Symone Brown scored 17 points and Zenita Agu had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Gladiators, who bolted to a 39-19 lead by halftime.

Marifian, the league’s top scorer at 19.4, also had 12 steals, six rebounds and four assists.

Irma Urzua had 15 points, Debra Lovell had eight points and nine rebounds and Demetria Love added 10 rebounds for the Vikings (9-13, 3-3).

Suburban League
Mayfair 60, Glenn 33

Chidiogo Ofoegbu collected 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mayfair (13-9, 8-0) past Glenn, 60-33 in a Suburban League game. The Monsoons broke the contest open by outscoring Glenn, 36-12 over the second and third quarters.

The Eagles are 11-6, 4-2.

Cerritos 48, Norwalk 42

Alexis Love had 20 points, 11 rebounds and three steals for Norwalk (10-12, 2-6) in its six-point loss to Cerritos (13-7, 5-1).

Brittany Jimenez had eight points and Nia Lateju had eight points and 11 rebounds for Norwalk.

Bellflower 44, La Mirada 25
Bellflower (7-15, 5-3) got 11 points from Shavenna Gardner in its Suburban League win over La Mirada. Regina English added 10 points.

Del Rio League
California 52, Santa Fe 41

Ivory Hallstein had 22 points, 11 rebounds, four blocked shots and four assists to lead California past Santa Fe in a Del Rio League game.

The victory improved the Condors to 12-9 overall and 4-2 in league. They are a game back of co-leaders Santa Fe and Whittier.

Tera Salhus scored 11 points and Klarissa Ayala had 10 for Santa Fe (15-8, 5-1). Alexus Guerrero had 12 rebounds.

Whittier 65, El Rancho 33

Loren Gurrola scored16 points  as Whittier (14-9, 5-1) routed El Rancho (7-11, 1-5) in Del Rio play.

BOYS BASKETBALL
San Gabriel Valley League
Gahr 67, Downey 54

Ervin Ware had 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead Gahr (18-4, 4-2) past Downey in the San Gabriel Valley League game.

Anthony Martinez added 15 points for the Gladiators. Downey is 9-13 overall, 2-4 in league.

Paramount 73, Lynwood 69

Rashard Parker had 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead Paramount (14-8, 4-2) to a 73-69 victory over Lynwood (15-7, 5-1), which saw its two-game lead trimmed in half.

David Hall had 26 points to lead Lynwood. The Knights also got 16 points from Cedric Ross and 15 from Raymond Alexander III.

Suburban League
Norwalk 70, Cerritos 56

Anthony Holliday had 24 points and 10 rebounds as Norwalk (12-11, 5-3) rolled to a 70-56 victory over Cerritos (13-9, 4-3) in the Suburban League.

Cammie Lewis added 15 points and Jeffrey Montoya 10 for the Lancers.

Bellflower 38, La Mirada 37

Jorge Espinola scored on a layup at the buzzer after taking a pass from Daijon MacKlien to give Bellflower (11-11, 2-6) a 38-37 upset victory over La Mirada (10-13, 4-4).

Connor Gillett led La Mirada with 17 points.

Mayfair 68, Glenn 25

Dion Wright had 18 points and eight rebounds as Mayfair (14-8, 7-1) routed Glenn, 68-25 in the Suburban League game. Tim Douglas added 17 points.

Glenn is 1-15, 0-7.

Del Rio League
Whittier 64, El Rancho 49

Gary Matthews had 18 points and Juan Quintero 17 as Whittier (12-9, 5-1) recorded a 15-point victory over El Rancho (5-15, 0-6) in the Del Rio League. The Cardinals led, 36-23 at halftime.

Kevin Walley had 14 points and Anthony Pacheco added 12 for El Rancho.

California 50, Santa Fe 47

Keith Smith had 17 points and 19 rebounds to lead California (10-9, 4-2) to a 50-47 Del Rio victory over Santa Fe (5-12, 2-4).
