Success in the Southern Section Division 3A boys basketball title game could be determined by which team has the most morning people on its roster.

An early wakeup call is certainly in order for Centennial and Serra high schools, who will tipoff at 9 a.m. Saturday at Honda Center in Anaheim in the first of six  championship games at the arena.

The third-seeded Apaches, 78-70 winners over Harvard-Westlake in the semis, take a 25-5 record into the contest. Top-seeded Serra, an 81-60 winner over Gahr in the semis, is 29-2.

Centennial would also like nothing better than to avenge a Dec. 10 loss to Serra in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions at Ocean View.

To reach this game, the Pioneer League champions hit 11 3-pointers in knocking off a second-seeded Harvard-Westlake. A day earlier, Centennial defeated Harvard-Westlake.

Against the Wolverines in the semifinals, Thomas Hammock hit five 3-pointers, including one in the fourth quarter for a 59-58 lead, to lead the way for the Apaches.

Deonte Burton led Centennial with 26 points. The 6-2 Burton, Kevin Smith and Hammock are the key players for the Apaches.

Serra received 31 points from Keith Shamburger, who was 6-of-8 from 3-point range, in the victory over Gahr (25-5).

The Cavaliers led, 59-50 at the end of three quarters, then went on an 11-0 run to start the fourth.

Vaughn Autry scored 12 points and Marqise Lee added 11 for the Cavaliers.

Shamburger and Autry are two of the standouts for Serra. An important inside player is 6-8 Ronnie Stevens.

Division 2AA
Compton (18-12) battles Murrieta Valley (26-4) at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Honda Center for the Division 2AA crown.

The Tarbabes routed Burbank, 71-48 and Murrieta toppled top-seeded Summit, 71-67 in the semis.

Junior forward Amir Garrett leads Leuzinger with averages of 17.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
