Inglewood High School’s girls basketball team had three goals once the postseason started — win a Southern Section championship, a Southern Regional title and ultimately a State crown.

Consideer goal number one accomplished.

The Sentinels nailed down the 3AA title Saturday at Long Beach State with a 64-49 victory over top-seeded and previously undefeated Agoura for the first section title in program history. They lost to Foothill in last season’s section final before going on to advance all the way to State Division III title game where they lost to Stockton St. Mary’s.

Senior point guard Hazel Ramirez, the reigning Wave Newspapers player of the year, led the way with 19 points and four assists for the Sentinels (27-5).

Inglewood had to deal with a scare when Ramirez picked up her third foul with 3:25 left in the first half. However when she returned a little more than seven minutes later, the Sentinels had not given up any of their three-point lead.

Ramirez scored 12 points following her return.

Dejajanae Scurry had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Keyla Morgan added 12 points for Inglewood.

Brittany Oster led Agoura with 19 points and nine rebounds. Camille Mahlkenecht had 10.

Inglewood opens the Division III regionals Tuesday at home against Tulare.
