Southern Regionals start Tuesday

Price High School has earned the top seed in Division IV and Westchester has the second in Division I in the Southern Regional boys basketball playoffs that begin Tuesday.

Tipoff is at 7 p.m. unless indicated otherwise.

The Division I bracket is loaded with Mater Dei in the top seed, followed by the Comets, No. 3 Etiwanda and No. 4 Taft.

Tuesday’s openers have Westchester hosting Colony, Crenshaw hosting Long Beach Poly Loyola at Taft, Washington Prep at Leuzinger and Buchanan at Mater Dei. Westchester defeated Taft, 70-60 Saturday in the City Section Division I final. Crenshaw and Washington Prep were City semifinalists. Leuzinger won the Southern Section IA title Saturday.

In Division II, Keppel is at Liberty of Bakersfield Tuesday. The winner plays at top-seeded Eisenhower Thursday. San Joaquin Memorial is at Compton.

Serra has the No. 1 seed in Division III and gets a bye into the second round Thursday. The Cavaliers, who beat Centennial for the Southern Section 3A title Saturday, face the winner of Tuesday’s Bakersfield Ridgeview-Harvard-Westlake game.

Centennial, the No. 3 seed, hosts El Camino of Oceanside Tuesday.

As the No. 1 seed in Division IV, Price gets a bye into Thursday’s second-round. The Knights await the winner of Tuesday’s Kingsburg-Oaks Christian game.

City Small Schools champion LACES hosts Horizon Christian Academy of San Diego at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The LACES girls, seeded fourth, play Tollhouse Sierra at 6 p.m.

In Division V, City Small Schools runner-up View Park Prep is at No. 2 La Verne Lutheran.

GIRLS REGIONALS
Washington Prep travels to top-seeded Long Beach Poly and City Division I champion Carson hosts Bakersfield Stockdale in Division I openers. Narbonne is at Santa Monica.

In Division III, third-seeded Inglewood hosts Tulare.

Serra hosts Windward in a Division IV opener. The winner plays at No. 2 La Jolla Country Day Thursday.

View Park Prep, the second seed, hosts Calvary Baptist of La Verne in a Division V opener.

Second-round games are Thursday and semifinals Saturday. The regional finals are March 20. USC’s Galen Center hosts divisions I through III and Ontario Colony is the site for IV and V.

The state championships are the following weekend in Bakersfield.
