Alhambra tops Bell Gardens, 5-3

Alhambra High School broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the last of the fifth inning and Jonathan Beltran protected the lead the rest of the way in a 5-3 victory over Bell Gardens Friday in an Almont League baseball game.

The league-leading Moors are 14-3 overall, 6-0 in league. Bell Gardens is 7-3, 3-3. The two teams play Friday at Veterans Park in Commerce.

Beltran (4-0), who took over on the mound from Greg Saldate with two outs in the fifth, blanked the Lancers the rest of the way while recording the final seven outs.

Juan Crespo went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Vai Peko was 2-for-2 to lead the Moors offensively. Jesus Lopez and Juan Morales had sacrifice flies.

Joshua Flores homered and Albert Flores singled, doubled and drove in a run for Bell Gardens. Gilbert Ortega also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Schurr 12, Keppel 8
Schurr (3-9, 3-3) pulled even in the standings with Bell Gardens by outlasting Keppel, 12-8 Friday.

The Spartans and B.G. are tied for third behind Montebello and Alhambra.

Keppel (0-13, 0-6) was led by Andrew Fraire, 3-for-4 with a triple and Juan Huizar, 3-for-4 with an RBI. Matthew Chidez, Max Katz and Justin Nunez each had two hits and Christian Rodriguez added two RBIs for the Aztecs.

Schurr is at Keppel Friday.
