Christian Smith, St. Bernard, 6-3, 185, Sr.
The Del Rey League MVP led the Vikings to a 10-0 regular season and finished as the state’s fifth leading passer by going 212 of 324 for 3,449 yards and 39 TDs.
RUNNING BACKS
Anthony Charles, Verbum Dei, 5-9, 175, Sr.
Charles capped an outstanding three-year career for the Eagles by rushing for 1,196 yards and 13 TDs on 149 carries. He also caught 23 passes for 285 yards and four scores. The All-Del Rey League first-teamer had 3,347 yards rushing for his career.
Darryl Sullivan, Fremont, 5-8, 200, Sr.
The senior tailback was the heart of the Pathfinder offense with 1,349 yards and 11 TDs on 201 carries. The 5-8, 200-pounder was All-City Division II first team.
Marcus Stamps, Jefferson, 6-1, 200, Jr.
The junior running back/linebacker carried 92 times for 1,122 yards and 12 TDs and caught seven passes for 133 yards and another score for the Southern League champs. Named All-City Division II on defense, he had 78 total tackles (57 solo), 7.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
WIDE RECEIVER
Darreus Rogers, Carson, 6-2, 195, Sr.
The 6-2, 195-pound future USC Trojan led the Colts to the City Section Division I title game for a second consecutive season with 64 catches for 1,251 yards and 10 TDs. In the City final, a 48-32 loss to Narbonne, he caught 13 passes for 251 yards and two TDs.
Jaydon Mickens, Dorsey, 5-8, 170, Sr.
The Wave Newspapers Player of the Year.
Joshua Hill, St. Bernard, 6-0, 175, Jr.
Although the receptions were spread around in St. Bernard’s pass-happy offense, Hill managed to put up huge numbers anyway, catching 62 passes for 1,190 yards and 11 TDs. He was All-Del Rey League.
LINE
Tarance Cotright, Crenshaw, 6-1, 230, Sr.
The 6-1, 230-pounder anchored the line for the Cougars and earned first-team All-City Division I honors.
Pu’e Togia, Carson, 6-5, 245, Jr.
The 6-5, 245-pound Togia was a force on the line for Carson. He earned All-City Division I first-team honors.
Anthony Kyles, Westchester, 6-3, 285, Sr.
The 6-3, 285-pounder was the Western League co-lineman of the year and an All-City selection.
Jose Cernas, Fremont, 6-4, 285, Sr.
Cernas, a 6-4, 285-pounder, was voted the City Division II offensive lineman of the year by the coaches.
Lacy Westbrook, Dominguez, 6-5, 300, Sr.
The UCLA commit, one of the nation’s top offensive line prospects, helped open holes for the Dons run-oriented offense.
ALL-PURPOSE
Derrick Woods, Inglewood, Sr.
The Ocean League offensive player of the year moved from the wide receiver spot he’ll play in college (Oklahoma) to quarterback and led the Sentinels to the Southern Section playoffs as a passer and runner.
DEFENSE
LINE
Kache Palacio, Serra, 6-2, 224, Sr.
The SMU-bound Palacio was the Mission League’s defensive MVP. The 6-2, 224-pounder had 92 tackles (45 solo), 13.5 sacks, an interception, five passes defensed and three forced fumbles.
Bryan Rivas, St. Bernard, 6-2, 230, Sr.
The Del Rey League’s lineman of the year recorded 62 solos tackles, 16.0 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Demetric McKinney, West Adams Prep, 6-1, 205, Sr.
McKinney’s 26 sacks led the state, plus he had 94 tackles (84 solo) and three forced fumbles for West Adams Prep. He was first-team All-City Division I.
Idrissa Simpson, Crenshaw, 6-2, 175, Sr.
Simpson created a lot of havoc for the opposition on defense for the Cougars. He had 61 tackles, 9.0 sacks, an interception, two blocked PATs and a blocked field goal. He also caught 16 passes for 263 yards and three TDs.
LINEBACKERS
Jeremiah Allison, Dorsey, 6-1, 210, Sr.
Allison, a three-time All-City selection, had 23 tackles this year and 63 for his career. His dominating performance this season enabled the Dons to win the Coliseum League title and reach the semifinals.
Thomas Brown, Serra, 6-2, 218, Sr.
Brown, who has verballed to Nebraska, had 77 tackles (32 solo), 2.5 sacks and two passes defensed. He was All-Mission League.
Nuoye Clemmons, West Adams Prep, 5-10, 210, Sr.
The Panthers middle linebacker recorded 146 tackles (122 solo), seven sacks and two interceptions. The All-City selection also had three forced fumbles and returned one fumble 65 yards for a TD.
SECONDARY
Adoree Jackson, Serra, 5-10, 171, Soph.
Jackson had a great sophomore season, intercepting six passes and batting away 10 more. The All-Mission League pick had 23 tackles.
Trayvon Watson, West Adams Prep, 6-1, 190, Sr.
The free safety had 131 tackles (112 solo), six interceptions and six passes defended. He has committed to UCLA.
Jerrod Moton, Carson, 5-10, 170, Sr.
Moton had five interceptions, two in the City title game, to lead Carson’s outstanding secondary. He was an All-City pick.
Brandon Beaver, Dominguez, 6-1, 176, Sr.
Beaver, one of the nation’s top defensive back prospects, had seven interceptions this year. He played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
SECOND TEAM
OFFENSE
QUARTERBACK
Jerry McConico, Crenshaw, 6-1, 170, Sr.
The highly-efficient McConico completed 91 of 176 passes for 1,417 yards and 17 TDs with just three interceptions. He was second-team All-City Division I.
RUNNING BACK
Anterio Bateman, Serra, 5-8, 171, Jr.
Bateman carried 101 times for 934 yards and 10 TDs for the Mission League champion Cavaliers.
WIDE RECEIVER
Robert McCovery, Jordan, 6-1, 180, Sr.
McCovery caught 36 passes for 814 yards and five TDs and added another 300 yards and two TDs on 23 rushes. As a defensive back, he had four interceptions.
Chris Mack, St. Bernard, 6-2, 180, Sr.
Mack had 58 receptions for 856 yards and eight TDs. He was all-league.
LINE
Justin Johnson, Dorsey, 6-3, 270, Sr.
The All-Coliseum League pick anchored both the offensive and defensive lines for the Dons.
Rondell Tucker-Bayne, Centennial, 6-4, 235, Sr.
The All-Pioneer League selection stood out on both sides of the ball for Centennial.
Dejon Allen, Dominguez, 6-3, 265, Sr.
The Arizona State commit was another force on the line for the Dons.
Tavita Tua’au, Serra, 6-5, 248, Sr.
He earned first-team All-Mission League honors while anchoring a strong offensive line for the Cavaliers.
ALL-PURPOSE
Mossi Johnson, Crenshaw, 6-1, 169, Jr.
Johnson did a bit of everything for Crenshaw. He carried 78 times for 493 yards and six TDs as a tailback, caught 15 passes for 150 yards and a TD and was in on 40 tackles. He also returned kicks.
Chad Conner, Morningside, 5-8, 165, Sr.
The speedy Conner was a key for the Monarchs running the ball (48 carries for 347 yards, three TDs), catching it (13 for 309 yards, two TDs) and returning kicks (30.1 average on kickoffs, 24.4 on punts). He scored eight TDs, two on returns. As a safety, he had 23 tackles and two interceptions.
DEFENSE
LINE
Kris Cooper, Serra, 6-2, 281, Sr.
The heavily-recruited defensive tackle and offensive lineman had 42 tackles, 6.0 sacks, two interceptions and a pass defensed.
Manoah Pearson, Carson, 6-0, 200, Soph.
The All-City second-team pick was a standout on the defensive line for the Colts.
LINEBACKERS
Daniel Cortez, Carson, 6-0, 215, Jr.
He was a leader on defense for the City Division I runners-up.
Darren Williams, Dorsey, 5-10, 210, Sr.
Williams recorded more than 90 tackles with four sacks and an interception as one of the leaders of a tough Dorsey defense.
Shaiquan Jackson, Centennial, 5-10, 190, Jr.
Jackson was a standout on both sides of the ball while helping the Apaches advance to the second round of the Southern Section playoffs. He was the Pioneer League’s tri-defensive player of the year.
SECONDARY
Patrick Wooten, Serra, 5-11, 193, Sr.
He had 49 tackles (22 solo), four interceptions, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
Isiah Brame, Hawthorne, 6-0, 180, Sr.
The two-way standout had five interceptions and 33 tackles for the Cougars. Playing running back and receiver on offense, he caught 38 passes for 638 yards and four TDs and rushed for 394 yards and four TDs on 43 carries.
Jayme Otemewo, Dorsey, Sr., 6-2, 180, Jr.
The strong safety was a big hitter strong on run support. He had 70 tackles and four interceptions.
Daquione Hardy, Locke, 5-10, 185, Sr.
Hardy recorded 60 tackles, an interception and seven passes defensed. As a running back, he gained 400 yards and scored four TDs.
