Emmett Duvall, who helped the Crenshaw High School boys basketball team reach the state regional playoffs for the first time in 12 years, has signed with Humboldt State.

Lumberjacks coach Steve Kinder made the announcement Wednesday.

Duvall, a 6-6 power forward, averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocked shots and 2.0 assists per game for a Cougar team that was 21-5 overall and won its second consecutive Coliseum League title. He was a first-team all-league selection.

“We are excited about Emmett signing and becoming a cornerstone of our basketball team in the next four years,” Kinder said. “He is a quality freshman student-athlete from Southern California who can make plays above the rim with his high-caliber athleticism.”

Duvall is joining a Humboldt State program that went 22-8 and shared the California Collegiate Athletic Association title this past season. The Lumberjacks advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons.

Kinder takes over as coach following 19 years as the program’s top assistant and primary recruiter. He served his entire tenure at HSU under Tom Wood, who guided the Jacks the past 29 years.
