L.A.'s Tolbert no-hits foe at RBI World Series

Shanel Tolbert pitched a no-hitter Wednesday to lift Los Angeles past Minneapolis/St. Paul, 9-0 in pool play of the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities World Series for softball in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Tolbert, 17, struck out eight and hit a batter in the five-inning contest in which the locals improved to 3-0. She also scored two runs.

Breea Jamerson and Bre’Leena Wright had two and three RBIs respectively for Los Angeles, now 3-0.

In L.A.'s second game of the day, Megan Reiner pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts in an 11-1 victory over Philadelphia. Reiner did not issue a walk in the five-inning game.

Leesa Harris had a single, double, two stolen bases and three runs and Stephanie Hernandez had a single, double and RBI for L.A., now 4-0 in the tournament.

L.A. scored four in the first, one in the second and three each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Other action Wednesday saw Puerto Rico edge Cleveland, 5-4, Tampa defeat the Phillies, 9-1 and Hudson County top Houston, 4-2.

The Series ends Saturday with the championship game, which will be aired on a tape-delay basis on the MLB Network.
