Charnell Price, a standout sprinter from Inglewood’s St. Mary’s Academy, has signed a national letter of intent to run track at the University of California.

A state finalist in the 100 and 200 meters, Price is part of a 26-athlete recruiting class announced Wednesday by Golden Bears director of track and field Tony Sandoval.

Price, a Los Angeles native, and Long Beach Millikan’s Ashley Smith, runner-up in the heptathlon at the USTA Junior Championships, are considered the standout signees on the women’s side.

Price was fifth in the 100 (11.74) and seventh in the 200 (24.30) at the state meet. She ran a personal best 11.65 in the prelims (18th best among U.S. preps) and owns a best of 23.75 (12th best in the nation) in the 200.

She ran on the 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 relays that placed eighth and third, respectively at state. She anchored the 4 by 400 team.

As a junior, Price was 12th at the state meet in the 100 (11.97) and fourth in the 4 by 100 relay. She also ran cross country as a senior.
