Malcolm Carson serves as Managing Attorney for the South Los Angeles Office.

LAFLA has been serving poor and low-income families in South Los Angeles and adjoining communities for 80 years. Community members can call or visit the office to receive legal advice and information on consumer law and foreclosure issues, employment law, family law including domestic violence, housing and eviction defense issues, government benefits, immigration, and community economic development. The facility has three intake offices to provide confidential screenings for clients, improved client reception and waiting areas, more optimal offices for staff, a large conference room for community meetings and ample street parking. The building was formerly the Ascot Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.

“We are pleased to have a central location in the South Los Angeles community where individuals and families can get to know LAFLA’s attorneys and advocates, and how we can assist them with their legal problems,” said Malcolm Carson, who has more than 10 years of experience working with neighborhood and community groups on land-use, development, transportation, organization building, landlord/ tenant and environmental issues.

The South Los Angeles Office also has an active Client Council, whose members represent the interest of the community and provide advice and support to LAFLA’s office. Client Council officers and members include Chair Mary Trotter, Vice Chair Patricia Jones, immediate past Chair Lillian Mobley and members Winetka Pleasant, Maria Elena Rodriguez, Patricia Vining, Ora Blackman, Sylvia Davis, Styles Logan, Jr., Philip Mobley, Mindy Owes and Phillip Waters.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles is the frontline law firm for low-income people in Los Angeles. LAFLA is a front on legal issues like corruption in local government and its officials. The major fight of discrimination, and the protection of human rights is going down every day against Black People and not being addressed by LAFLA.
